Summer 2008 - Terragen

It has been a busy year, but gradually I will get back into Terragen. I practically have to learn to do this stuff again. I have moved twice since my previous rendering. Hopefully getting back into this work.

A New Year

It has been the better part of a year since there have been any new additions to this site from Terragen; either the "old" version or from TG2. I almost have to relearn the thing! I hope to gradually get some more renders up here in the coming months. Then, next month, I will be going on another long monastic retreat. Yes, I am getting more into that all of the time, and it is just possible that I may take a vocation to the order that I belong to and in which I have been an oblate for nearly four years. In other words, I would become a monk. This is nothing new with me, as I have had this urge to that way of life for some years now, but if it is to become a reality, now is the time because I will soon be too old to enter an order. Anyway, that is where we are at this time. Sorry for the long absence.

Spiritual Retreat

I have been on the road again. This time I went for a week long monastic retreat out in Wisconsin. It has been a very busy time the past couple of weeks or so. I hope to get settled down enough this weekend to do a new render.

Vacation

I was away for a week of visiting family out in the San Francisco Bay Area for a week. I returned home this past Tuesday. It was nice to be away for a week and also nice to be in San Francisco while it was snowing on Easter morning back here at home! Now it is back to work and also time to look at creating some more Terragen renders.

TG2 is great, but slow renders

I love the ability to add moons, multiple suns, and different levels of volumetric clouds in TG2, but the render time for anything of decent quality "resolution" is far too long. It takes hours. I can do a good high quality render in Terragen 0.9 in usually under two hours, but one of the same quality in TG2 would take a couple of days or more! So with that I am using it sparingly these days and still doing most renders with the old version. Maybe the final release of TG2 will be more efficient in CPU usage and such and the render times will be less, but I don't know right now. We will see what we will see.
